The Florey Drive Studio is a project exploring potential multi-generational, amenity increasing and flexible living and work from home opportunities to a single residential detached dwelling in suburban Macgregor.

The project consists of a 1-bedroom studio and north facing private courtyard, workshop / flexible utility space, double garage, and storage space as a single structure.

The structure is a steel system  that is strengthened via a Bondor sandwich panel roof system. This sandwich panel roof system consolidates roof structure, insulation, roof decking and soffit / garage and workshop ceiling surface in one panel. This results in a low cost, quick roof construction methodology which reduces conventional roofing trades.

External wall cladding consists of a wroughted FC cladding with varying paint colours to differentiate different uses of the project. This paint and material scheme methodology extends from exteriors to interiors to continue the language ‘use differentiation’, and to introduce different textures and finishes into the studio space.

The studio space is designed as a flexible living and workspace that can facilitate a range of different functions. The new space facilitates work from home opportunities, and can function as an extension of the existing house. Upvc windows, considered window placement, sandwich roof panel and high levels of insulation make all spaces comfortable to work in all year round, reducing reliance on artificial heating and cooling.
